We grow food at three locations on campus:
Started in 2013 and nestled in the Mercer Court Apartments courtyard, a stones throw from the UW Farm Clubhouse (see location information below), Mercer Court has almost half an acre in production! Mercer Court has become an important part of the student community by promoting education about food in the urban environment and providing a more interesting backyard for residents of Mercer Court. People can walk through this 11K urban farm site, or stick around longer and volunteer. The UW Farm at Mercer shows that farming is fun and doesn’t have to be miles out of a city.
UW Farm Clubhouse
This is the central meeting location for everything that happens at Mercer Court. It serves as a space for farm equipment storage, a break room on a hot summer day, and community space for occasional events. To get to the clubhouse, head west on NE Pacific St. and head to Mercer Court Building E (furthest West). The clubhouse is located on the farthest southeast corner of the building. The Center for Urban Horticulture (CUH)
The Center for Urban Horticulture site of the UW Farm feels a little bit like an oasis in the middle of a bustling city. This 12K site is the second Farm site and is the largest condensed agricultural area on main campus.
When the UW farmers began considering expanding from the original site at the Botany Greenhouse, a site at the UW Botanic Gardens that was being used by Seattle Youth Garden Works (SYGW) was identified as a possible location for expansion. SYGW is a remarkable organization that empowers homeless and underserved youth through garden-based education and employment. Because of SYGW’s commitment to social justice and community engagement, a partnership between SYGW and the UW Farm made sense.
In 2011 the Farm received a $78,307 grant from the Campus Sustainability Fund to jumpstart this second farm space. On May 22, 2011, the partnership of SYGW and the UW Farm brought in a tractor from Full Circle Farm to officially break ground.
Since that original groundbreaking, the Center for Urban Horticulture UW Farm site has been used for a variety of educational and agricultural activities and has produced bounties of organic vegetables. Come check out the CUH site!

Introducing the UW Farm’s new growing space! We are excited to be starting a partnership with HFS, growing directly for their dining facilities at McMahon, just 200 yards away from the kitchen for The 8!
